SUBJECT: Regional Contest Registration Packets
Please provide this information to all advisors at your site who plan to participate in the
2018 Regional Automotive, Photography and Welding Contests.
The registration packets for the regional contests are enclosed. The date for all regional contests is Saturday, February 10, 2018
Please follow the instructions closely and return all registration and liability forms (Form D) to Marni Mast at the email or fax number shown on the registration forms. If you send them electronically, please send them in PDF only. All registration forms are due by Saturday, January 27, 2018.
All students must be active members of SkillsUSA to be eligible to compete in the regional contests, since these are the qualifying events for the Nevada SkillsUSA Championships for these contests.
Remember, signed paper copies of all liability forms must be emailed or faxed to Marni Mast by the registration due date. Students will not be able to compete without a liability form properly completed and signed. Also, advisors must be present and on-site during the contests. Students will not be able to compete without an assigned advisor present during the contest.
The regional contest registration fee is ($30.00) per student, for Automotive, Photography and Welding
Example of how qualifying for State will take place:
As an example, a state contest has a maximum of 40 secondary slots available at the state level. If we set a limit of 4 per school for Regional’s, we could have 18 students in the south and 46 students in the north competing for the 40 spots at state. By using the formula below, this would mean that 11 from the south and 29 from the north would qualify. (EXAMPLE ONLY)
Formula for determining qualifying numbers from each Regional:
18 / 64 x 40 = 11 (18 students from south competing divided by 64 total registered statewide times 40 total slots at state equals number qualifying from the southern regional = 11)
Registering Alternates for Regional Contests:
Each chapter may register alternates for any contest that has a limit. Each alternate must be registered as an “Alternate” and must be submitted before the registration deadline to be eligible to compete at the regional contest. The alternate is required to submit a Form D along with the registration form and is required to pay the registration fee if the primary contestant has not paid.
Only “Alternates” that have been submitted with the original registration form and have a Form D on file will be eligible to compete at the contest in the event one of your primary contestants is unable to attend. No on-site name changes will be allowed unless they are registered as an alternate.
Cancelation Policy for Regional Contests:
In keeping with our policy regarding cancelations, “Fifty percent (50%) of the registration fees will be reimbursed for deletions that are done more than seven (7) days prior to the day the conference / contest officially commences.” Cancelations done within 7 days of the conference are non-refundable.
Each contest has costs associated with it that are incurred for materials, supplies, consumables, etc. that is purchased well in advance of the contest based on registration numbers provided to them. In an effort to prevent the association from losing money on these contests, we ask that you remit payment for registrations guaranteed by your chapter.
Contest Limits for Regional contests:
Each Regional contest has a limit on the number of contestants allowed per school/chapter to register. If the registration numbers come in higher than the survey results indicated, the contest limits per school may be reduced to insure the quality and/or safety of the contest. If there is a reduction in contest limits, you will be notified immediately after the registration closes January 27th.
Post Secondary Schools:
At the present, the policy we have used since the start of the Regional contests in 1999 allows for 2 slots for each Post Secondary school per State contest. This precludes them from competing at Regional’s and provides the Post Secondary schools the opportunity to have an in-house competition to determine who will represent them at State. As we continue to grow in numbers statewide, this policy, as well as all policies regarding Regional contests, will be reviewed annually.
Please contact me at (775) 327-3945 or email@example.com if you have any questions about the upcoming regional contests.
