Welcome Back!

August, 2016

Dear Nevada SkillsUSA Advisors:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am looking forward to a great year working with all of you to help Nevada students take advantage of all the opportunities that SkillsUSA membership offers them.

To help make this a great year, we have an incredible team of student leaders on our 2016-2017 State Officer team. These dedicated students have been hard at work planning exciting things for our membership!

We also welcomed several newly elected members to our Board. Their enthusiasm and knowledge promise to offer excellent guidance for our organization this year. We have an open position for Region 4 (representing Clark, Esmeralda, Nye and Lincoln counties) and I encourage those of you residing in those areas to consider running for this spot.

Finally, this newsletter marks our renewed commitment to clear, frequent communication with our Nevada SkillsUSA membership. You will also be able to find all news and updates, conference mailings, forms and informational packets on our website.

I thank you for your continued support and wish you all the best as we work together to continue to lift up students through Career and Technical Education and SkillsUSA. Please let me know if I can do anything for you and your chapter members.

Best wishes for a successful school year –

Sindie Read
>State Director

>Reminder:> All conference mailings, forms and information packets will be available on our web site.

Item #4 – State Conference Registration Fee Change
As many of you know, state funding for CTSO operations was reduced by half for the 2016-17 school year. This made it necessary for Nevada SkillsUSA to consider a state conference registration fee increase to maintain the financial health of the organization. At the July Board meeting, a majority vote of the Board resulted in the following change to state conference registration fees for students only:

Conference Registration: $100 *applies to students who must incur a lodging cost in order to attend the conference

Conference Registration – Local: $125 *applies to students in districts that commute daily and will not incur a lodging cost to attend the conference.

>This change will take affect for the 2017 State Conference to be held in Reno.

Please be sure to share these fee changes with you students, administrators and CTE departments so that appropriate planning can occur. If you have any question, please contact me at sread@washoeschools.net or call 775-327-3945.
